The DUI Awareness Initiative provides educational programs for young drivers, college students and community groups. These educational programs provide participants with an increased awareness about the issue of impaired driving. The program clearly defines the magnitude of the problem, teaches basic physiology related to alcohol consumption, offers a concise, yet very insightful lesson about the laws, and provides a detailed explanation of the short and long-term consequences associated with impaired driving. This program does not subscribe to the long-held, but clearly failed, concept of responsible drinking, but instead teaches participants not to drive after consuming any alcohol.

Over 70,000 young drivers have participated in this innovative education program that has been making a difference in the Tampa Bay area since 1998. The DUI Awareness Initiative and the School District of Hillsborough County are partners in the effort to educate young drivers about impaired driving. This unique educational program is currently conducted in 250 Drivers Education classes at 24 high schools in Hillsborough County. Over 9,000 young drivers participate in the program on an annual basis.
